Inspirations No. 1 -Alejandro, AMCH Photography

Where to start? Alejandro was one of the first photographers I followed on tumblr when I began, and he’s constantly somehow developing, always pushing himself and learning, and this passion really comes across in his work. Choosing my favourite photo of his was incredibly hard, and I’ll always remember his incredible double-exposures when I first discovered him. I had to choose this picture of the Museo Soumaya though because of the beautiful composition, and although I doubt this applies to many people, if you are not already following Alejandro, please do so right away. Below are a few questions I asked him about his inspirations and how he started out.

Who are some of the photographers that inspired you at an early stage in your work?

I don’t know much about famous photographers, I must admit. I’m pretty new to this and, even though I love art in all its forms, I have never studied photography styles nor their representatives. I do get inspired though by my fellow photographers in Tumblr, Flickr and Cargo Collective. I don’t wanna say names because I ‘m sure I’ll miss a couple and don’t want people to get sensitive haha!

What was your first camera?

My first camera was a Sony Cyber-shot. I don’t remember the exact model, but it was a 2mp digital camera. It was stolen in Barcelona back in 2008. Then, I bought another Sany Cyber-shot (DSC-W90), an 8.1mp one this time. At this point I started to get into photography a little more, I started making long exposures just with the Night time mode but then, it was all I could do. Finally, in January 2010 I got my first DSLR, A Canon Xsi, the camera that made me fall in love with photography. I still shoot with this camera and I don’t know when I’ll upgrade but I try to take the best out of it.

Do you have a favourite quote about photography or art in general?

-My relationship to film begins at that moment of shooting, and ends in the moment of projection. Along the way, there are several stages of magical transformation that imbue the work with varying layers of intensity. What advice would you give to yourself when you first started out?

Practice more, read more and, please, shoot RAW :D
